luisterpaal

I rediscovered 3voor12’s luisterpaal. Every week they present a couple of cd’s which you can fully listen online in great quality.

While browsing through their albums i saw that the West-Flemish hip hop group “‘t hof van commerce” has a new cd: “ezoa en niet anders”. Apart from hearing a reasonably good hiphop album, it is great to hear back the language which the family of my father speaks. I let it hear to some native Dutch people but they couldn’t understand a thing. I guess West-flemish is to Flemish as Fries is to Dutch. If you want to try to understand some things, i can recommend this short course in West-Flemish. It is written down as you would speak it – which can give some hilarious reading out loud moments :-)

Note the West-Flamish language has two extra verbs: ja (yes) and no (nee). Their full conjugation goes like this:

JA
-1e persoon enkelvoud: Joak
-2e persoon enkelvoud: Joaj/Joag
-3e persoon enkelvoud: Joaj (mannelijk), Joas (vrouwelijk) en Joat onzijdig)

-1e persoon meervoud: Jom/Jow
-2e persoon meervoud: Joag
-3e persoon meervoud: Joas

NEE
-1e persoon enkelvoud: Nink / Njennek
-2e persoon enkelvoud: Njeig
-3e persoon enkelvoud: Njeinnie / Nei (mannelijk), Nins (vrouwelijk) en Nint (onzijdig)

-1e persoon meervoud: Njiem / Nimm
-2e persoon meervoud: Njeig
-3e persoon meervoud: Nihns
